Image of the Crucifixion of the Lord on Naturally Aged Wood
In the image of the Crucifixion of the Lord, the cross of Christ dominates. The cross consists of a vertical beam and three horizontal ones: the large one where His hands were nailed, a small one as a footrest, and one above His head as a sign indicating the cause of His condemnation.
To the right of the Cross, the Virgin Mary and three women who accompany her are depicted. Among them are Mary Magdalene and Mary the wife of Clopas, as mentioned in the Gospel of Saint John. The women embrace the Virgin Mary, comfort her, and participate in the Divine Passion. On the other side of the Cross, the young Evangelist John and the Roman centurion, later a saint, Longinus, are depicted. John is looking down, contemplative and sorrowful about the mystery of the Divine Passion unfolding before him.
At “Agioritic Heritage,” you will find collectible icons made from naturally aged wood from the Garden of the Virgin, crafted by Athonite monks.
As the image is handmade and the wood treatment is done by hand, there may be slight variations in the wood, but not in the depiction.
The image is available upon order.
