Peter was born in Bethsaida, near the Sea of Galilee, where he and his brother Andrew worked as fishermen, along with two other Apostles, James and John, the sons of Zebedee.

He lived in Capernaum, where his wife was from, although nothing is known about her. We know that Peter was married because Christ healed his mother-in-law. It is very likely that his wife had passed away by the time Christ called him to the apostolic office. During his missionary journeys, Peter had a Christian sister with him, rather than his wife, to assist him.

His calling to the apostolic office happened gradually. First, his brother Andrew introduced Peter to Christ. He was presumably present at the wedding in Cana and shortly after that wedding, he settled with Jesus and other disciples in Capernaum.

The naturally aged wood, sourced from a restored Athonite cell, on which the image is crafted, gives it a unique aesthetic and collectible value, while also conveying a piece of its long history beyond the Athonite State.

As the icon is handmade and the wood processing is done by hand, there may be slight variations in the wood, but not in the depiction.
