Description

Image of Saint Simon the Apostle on Naturally Aged Wood

The Apostle Simon was one of the twelve disciples of the Lord and the brother of Jude the Levite.

Saint Apostle Simon was called the Zealot because of the fervor and zeal with which he preached the word of the Gospel. He was from Cana in Galilee and is known as Simon the Canaanite (or Nathanael or Bartholomew, son of Tholomai). After the Ascension of Christ and the grace of Pentecost, Simon engaged in extensive missionary work. He preached the Gospel in Persia, where, having demolished the myth of polytheism, he revealed the light of the Gospel truth to many people.

The naturally aged wood, sourced from a restored Athonite cell, on which the image is crafted, gives it a unique aesthetic and collectible value, while also conveying a piece of its long history beyond the Athonite State.

As the icon is handmade and the wood processing is done by hand, there may be slight variations in the wood, but not in the depiction.

The icon is available by special order.
