The Evangelist John, the beloved disciple of the Lord, “who leaned on the breast of Jesus,” is the one who wrote the Gospel of John, as well as the three Catholic Epistles that bear his name.

The memory of the Apostle John is celebrated on September 26. After divine inspiration, the Evangelist John foresaw that he would be transferred from this life to the eternal and endless one. He gathered his disciples and went outside of Ephesus. There, at a certain point, he indicated that a tomb should be opened. Once this was done, he entered alive and peacefully fell asleep. This tomb became a source of healing thereafter.

The naturally aged wood, sourced from a restored Athonite cell, on which the image is crafted, gives it a unique aesthetic and collectible value, while also conveying a piece of its long history beyond the Athonite State.

As the icon is handmade and the wood processing is done by hand, there may be slight variations in the wood, but not in the depiction.
