This is a collectible icon of the Virgin Mary Holding the Child. The wood on which the icon is placed comes from a renovated cell of Mount Athos, which the monks carefully preserved during the renovation works. They restored it according to the traditional techniques used for wood-carved iconostases and repurposed it into an icon.

The name “Holding the Child” refers to the tenderness and care that the Theotokos shows to the young Jesus, whom She holds in Her arms. This is one of many titles attributed to the Virgin Mary, which arise either from the way She is depicted in icons, like the “Holding the Child” icon, or from the regions where churches dedicated to Her name are located, or even from hymns and traditions.

Through “Athonite Heritage,” collectible icons made from naturally aged woods, which come from renovated Athonite cells, can be found in the hands of people who long to hold a piece of the living Athonite tradition.

Since the icon is handmade and the wood processing is done by hand, there may be slight variations in the wood, but not in the depiction.
