An amazing image on naturally aged wood, depicting the Virgin Mary Pantanassa seated on a carved wooden throne with a footrest, holding the infant Jesus in her arms.

The miraculous icon of the Virgin Pantanassa is a portable icon from the 17th century, located in the Holy Monastery of Vatopedi. In Christian tradition, the name “Pantanassa” is one of the many epithets of the Theotokos, meaning “Queen of All” or “Mistress of the Universe.”

The Pantanassa icon is attributed with many miracles. One of these concerns a young man who visited the monastery to venerate the icon. However, an invisible force knocked him down, and when he regained consciousness, he confessed that he had strayed from the path of God. He repented, and his soul was saved.

The entire composition respects the age of the wood and faithfully reflects the Byzantine tradition of Mount Athos.

Since the icon is handmade and the wood processing is done by hand, there may be slight variations in the wood, but not in the depiction.
