Silkscreen of the Virgin Mary Pantanassa on Naturally Aged Wood
A beautiful image of the Virgin Mary Pantanassa, depicted in this icon as enthroned, holding Christ in her arms.
The original icon of the Virgin Mary Pantanassa is a portable icon, dating back to the 17th century, and it is located in the katholikon of the Holy Monastery of Vatopedi. It is considered to be particularly miraculous.
According to the fathers of the Monastery, one of the most remarkable miracles attributed to this icon is as follows: One day, a young man visited the monastery and approached the icon to venerate it. Suddenly, the face of the Virgin Mary shone, and an invisible force threw him to the ground. When he recovered, he confessed with tears to the monks that he had been living far from God and had been involved in sorcery. From that moment on, the miraculous intervention of the Virgin Mary convinced this young man to radically change his life.
The cracks and tears on the surface of this icon testify to the years that the wood “lived” on Mount Athos. The silkscreen of this wonderful representation of the Virgin Mary has been placed on naturally aged wood, which until a few years ago served the daily needs of the monks in a cell on Mount Athos.
As the icon is handmade and the wood is processed by hand, there may be slight variations in the wood, but not in the depiction.
The icon is available upon request.
