The Virgin Healer is one of the many titles of the Theotokos. She is the one who heals both the body and the soul of the faithful who turn to Her, the one who alleviates pain, and the one who provides courage and strength to those in need.

The history of the icon of the Virgin Healer is said to begin in 1920 when a woman, returning from Jerusalem, brought back an image of the Virgin and gave it as a gift to a friend in Loutraki. According to this story, the local residents, witnessing the miracles attributed to the icon, decided to build the first church dedicated to the Virgin Healer. Additionally, there is a historic monastery on Mount Taygetus dedicated to the Virgin Healer.

This particular icon, like all icons in this category, has been crafted on naturally aged wood, which comes from a cell of Mount Athos.
