The Virgin Annunciate is one of the rarest iconographic themes, although it has been known in Byzantine art since the 11th century. At that time, the prototype of the Virgin of Blachernae predominated in Byzantine iconography.

This particular icon presents the Virgin in a state of pregnancy, while angelic figures can be seen behind her, seemingly surrounding and protecting the Theotokos with red fabric.

The Virgin Annunciate is the patroness of childless couples and pregnant women. The Church honors this epithet of the Virgin on September 25th, exactly six months after the Annunciation of the Theotokos and three months before Christmas. The depiction of the Virgin Annunciate in iconography is rare. Although the Church places great importance on motherhood as a model, it is not widely spread in the art of iconography.

The uniqueness of this icon lies largely in its wood, which comes from an Athonite cell and carries the blessing of Mount Athos.
