According to tradition, this specific name was given to the Theotokos because she is depicted holding Jesus in her right hand, whereas the more common representation shows her holding the Divine Infant in her left hand. In this particular icon, she is also shown enthroned, which adds even more grandeur to this sacred figure.

However, there is another interpretation for this specific title of the Theotokos. According to this version, the Virgin Mary is the mediator between humans and God. She is the one who accepts the pleas, prayers, and requests of all people. The Virgin Mary Deesis is the Mother of God, the intercessor, and the savior—She who is always there beside every person, waiting to hear their prayers and intercede for their fulfillment.

Two elements highlight this particular image. The first is the impeccably executed representation of the Virgin by the Athonite monk, and the second is the naturally aged wood used as the base of the icon. The monks, paying attention to even the smallest details, create these images on pieces of wood that come from the Holy Mountain itself. These are woods that were salvaged from Athonite cells that had suffered damage over time. The monks processed and preserved them, giving them a new use as the base for these beautiful icons.
