Silkscreen of Virgin Mary Dexiokratousa on Naturally Aged Wood
A beautiful icon of Virgin Mary Dexiokratousa.
According to tradition, this specific name was given to the Virgin Mary because she is depicted holding Jesus in her right hand, while the more common depiction has the Holy Infant in her left hand.
There is also another interpretation, suggesting that the Virgin Mary was and remains the mediator between humans and God. She is the one who accepts the supplications, prayers, and pleas of all those who turn to her for help. Virgin Mary Dexiokratousa is the Mother Mary, the mediator, and the savior, always by everyone’s side, waiting to hear their prayers to intercede for their fulfillment.
The naturally aged wood, which for decades served the monks in a cell on Mount Athos as part of a staircase, ceiling, door, or furniture, is now transformed into this magnificent work of art. After renovations in the cells of the Athonite State, the monks preserve many wooden pieces, which they process, cut, and restore using the same techniques they use to maintain the wooden iconostases of the monasteries.
Thus, instead of completing its life cycle, this wood is turned into a base for collectible icons, which, through the “Athonite Heritage,” carry a small piece of history beyond the borders of the Athonite State.
Since the icon is handmade and the wood is manually processed, there may be slight variations in the wood but not in the depiction.
The icon is available upon order.
