Description

Icon of Christ the Life-Giver on Naturally Aged Wood

The icon of Christ the Life-Giver is mounted on naturally aged wood. Christ is depicted as stern and just, while the background of the icon adds a further Byzantine grandeur.

Christ the Life-Giver is the source of life, the leader of life and death. Throughout the history of the world, the only conqueror of decay and death is Christ. Through His sacrificial death on the cross, He definitively overcame death and sin.

The Resurrection of Christ is the foundation of the Church. The incarnation of God marks the entrance of the eternal and incorruptible into history. In a world that is disintegrating in decay and corruption, eternity invades, personified in Christ, as the possibility of transcending death. The Resurrection of Christ is the ultimate victory over death, not just as a continuation of biological life, but as immortality.

The monks of Mount Athos, using many different techniques that are not as popular today, preserve old woods from utilitarian objects or furniture and transform them into works of art that carry the living imprint of time. The icon of Christ in serigraph has been artificially aged to match the stylistic appearance of the old wood. The back of the icon bears the inscription “Άγιον Όρος” (Mount Athos), indicating its origin. The whole piece transmits the history and character of life on Mount Athos.

The “Athonite Heritage” expresses heartfelt thanks to the monks who entrusted these works to us, as it is a great blessing to bring them into the hands of those who appreciate their value.

Since the icon is handmade and the wood is processed by hand, there may be slight variations in the wood, but not in the depiction.

The icon is available upon order.
