Description

Silk Screen of the Annunciation of the Theotokos on Naturally Aged Wood

A magnificent silk screen depicting the Annunciation of the Theotokos. This is one of the most important feasts in Orthodoxy, as it marks the beginning of salvation for mankind.

The feast of the Annunciation of the Theotokos (March 25) is a Feast of the Lord and the Mother of God. It is considered a Lord’s feast because it refers to the Lord Christ, who was conceived in the womb of the Theotokos, and a Theotokos feast because it refers to the person who contributed to the conception and incarnation of the Word of God, namely the Virgin Mary.

The Annunciation is essentially the joyful news that the Virgin Mary received from the Archangel Gabriel that she would bring Jesus Christ into the world in a miraculous way. According to the Evangelist Luke, the event of the Annunciation took place in Nazareth. Sent by God, the Archangel Gabriel meets Mary at her home and greets her with the words: “Hail, full of grace, the Lord is with you.” When the Archangel announces that she will conceive, Mary is puzzled and asks how this will happen, as she has no husband. The Archangel reassures her that the Holy Spirit will take care of everything. Mary’s response, “Behold the handmaiden of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word,” shows her complete submission and trust in God’s will.

Through the Annunciation, God’s plan to save the world through the incarnation of His Son is revealed to both angels and humans.

An exceptional icon on naturally aged wood, where the age of the wood is clearly visible. It transports a piece of Mount Athos history beyond its borders, as it is made from wood reclaimed from a restored cell of Mount Athos.

As the image is handmade and the wood processing is done by hand, there may be slight variations in the wood, but not in the depiction itself.
