This collectible icon features three of the most significant holy figures of the Orthodox Church: Christ, the Virgin Mary, and Saint John the Baptist.

In Byzantine and generally Orthodox iconography, “Deisis” refers to the depiction of Christ surrounded by other Saints, most often the Virgin Mary and Saint John the Baptist.

In this icon, created by a monk from Mount Athos, we see Christ presented in the center, with the Virgin Mary on His right and Saint John the Baptist on His left. Both of these figures appear to be making intercession to Jesus Christ for the salvation of mankind, essentially mediating on behalf of the faithful who direct their prayers to them. For this reason, this particular depiction is also referred to as “Deisis.”

The naturally aged wood used for this icon with the depiction of the Deisis is a piece from Mount Athos, soaked in the prayers of the monks.

Today, this icon is part of a unique collection available through “Aghioritic Heritage.”

Since the icon is handmade and the wood processing is done by hand, there may be slight variations in the wood, but not in the depiction.
