Description

Serigraphy of the Deesis on Naturally Aged Wood

An amazing icon with strong symbolism, featuring three of the most important holy figures of the Orthodox Church.

This is a representation of Jesus, the Virgin Mary, and Saint John the Baptist, a depiction of the three persons known as the “Deesis.” Jesus Christ is always shown in the center, with the Virgin Mary to His right and Saint John the Baptist to His left.

Both of these figures, the Virgin Mary and John the Baptist, appear to be making a supplication to Jesus for the salvation of mankind, essentially interceding on behalf of the faithful who direct their prayers to them. This is why this particular representation is also referred to as the “Deesis.”

In Byzantine and general Orthodox iconography, the term “Deesis” refers to a representation of Christ surrounded by other saints.

A beautiful icon that stands out not only for its theme and the impressive work of the Athonite monk but also for the wood used as the base. The monk who created this piece used naturally aged wood from a renovated cell of Mount Athos. This incredible artwork carries with it a small piece of the history of this sacred place, as it once was part of it.

Since the icon is handmade and the wood is processed by hand, there may be small variations in the wood, but not in the depiction.

The icon is available upon order.
