Description

Image of Archangel Michael on Naturally Aged Wood

A stunning serigraph of Archangel Michael, the commander of the bodiless powers.

Archangel Michael appears as the Chief Commander and plays a pivotal role in both the Old and New Testaments.

He was the one who saved the angelic hosts from their fall with the words: Pay attention! Let us stand well, let us stand with fear.” For his boldness, the Triune God gave him the position of “Ruler of the Angelic Hosts,” Chief Commander and Archangel. He, along with all the angels, proclaimed the Trisagion hymn: “Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord of Hosts, heaven and earth are full of His glory.” Additionally, it is believed that, by God’s command, Archangel Michael expelled the Protoplasts from Paradise.

He was the one who announced to Abraham the necessity of sacrificing his son Isaac, and then later prevented it. He appeared to Lot, saving him and his family from the destruction of Sodom, and also to Jacob, saving him from his brother Esau, who sought to kill him. Furthermore, Archangel Michael led the people of Israel out of Egypt, appearing as a cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night, guiding them to the Promised Land.

In the New Testament, he will announce the second coming of Jesus Christ. He is prophetically depicted leading an army of angels in battle in heaven against “the great Dragon, the ancient serpent, Satan” and his demons.

He is honored as the patron of the Air Force. He is often depicted holding a spear, but in many representations, he also holds a scepter, symbolizing the authority granted to him by God.

He is celebrated together with Archangel Michael on November 8th.

The naturally aged wood, from a renovated Athonite cell, on which the image is crafted, gives it a unique aesthetic and collectible value, while simultaneously conveying a piece of the centuries-old history of the Athonite community.

Since the image is handmade and the wood is processed by hand, there may be slight variations in the wood, but not in the depiction.
