Description

Icon of Archangel Michael & the Holy Mandylion on Naturally Aged Wood
A magnificent silkscreen depicting Archangel Michael, the commander of the heavenly hosts, holding the Holy Mandylion.

Archangel Michael is portrayed as the Chief Commander, a figure of pivotal importance in both the Old and New Testaments.

He is the one who saved the angelic forces from falling, with the command: “Let us stand! Let us stand well, with reverence!” For his resolute faith, the Triune God appointed him as the “Leader of the Angelic Orders,” granting him the title of Commander and Taxiarch. Together with the angels, he proclaimed the Trisagion Hymn:
“Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord of Hosts, heaven and earth are full of His glory.”

Furthermore, it is believed that, under God’s command, Archangel Michael expelled the First Humans from Paradise.

In the Old Testament, Archangel Michael:

Delivered the message to Abraham regarding the sacrifice of his son Isaac, later preventing it.
Rescued Lot and his family from the destruction of Sodom.
Saved Jacob from his brother Esau, who sought to kill him.
Led the Israelites out of Egypt, appearing as a cloud by day and fire by night, guiding them to the Promised Land.
In the New Testament, Archangel Michael is prophesied to announce the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. He is depicted leading an army of angels in a heavenly battle against “the great dragon, the ancient serpent, Satan,” and his demons.

He is also celebrated as the protector of the Air Force. Typically, he is depicted holding a spear, but in some representations, he holds a scepter, symbolizing the authority granted to him by God.

His feast day, along with Archangel Gabriel, is celebrated on November 8th.

As the icon is handmade, and the wood is processed manually, slight variations in the wood may occur; however, the depiction itself remains unchanged.

The icon is available upon request.
