An exquisite serigraph of Archangel Gabriel created on naturally aged wood from the Garden of the Virgin (Mount Athos).

In both the Old and New Testaments, there are numerous interventions and blessings carried out by Archangel Gabriel. Specifically, he revealed to the prophet Daniel the duration of the Israelites’ captivity and foretold that after four hundred and ninety-seven years, Christ would come to Earth.

Archangel Gabriel served the mystery of God’s incarnation from beginning to end. He was the one who brought the news to Zechariah that he and his wife Elizabeth would bear John the Baptist, and to Joachim and Anna that they would conceive the Blessed Virgin Mary. Gabriel nourished the ever-virgin Mary for twelve years while she lived in the Temple, in the Holy of Holies, with heavenly food. He was also the one who brought her the joyful news of the Annunciation—that she would bear the Son of God.

Our Church celebrates both Archangels Michael and Gabriel on November 8th.

The uniqueness of this particular icon lies in the old wood upon which the image of Archangel Gabriel is placed. This wood was used for many years on Mount Athos and has been carefully transformed into an icon. The cracks in the old wood, in which the image is set, testify to the years it spent on Mount Athos.

As the icon is handmade and the wood is processed by hand, there may be slight variations in the wood, but not in the depiction.
