Description

Serigraph of the Archangel Gabriel on Naturally Aged Wood

A beautiful serigraph of the Archangel Gabriel.

He was the one who brought the news to Zechariah that his wife, Elizabeth, would give birth to John the Baptist, and to Joachim and Anna that they would give birth to the Most Holy Theotokos. Gabriel nourished the ever-virgin Mary for twelve years while she lived in the temple, in the Holy of Holies, with heavenly food. He was the one who brought her the joyful announcement, the Annunciation, that she would give birth to the Son of God.

In both the Old and New Testaments, numerous interventions and acts of kindness by the Archangel Gabriel are recorded. He was the one who revealed to the prophet Daniel the duration of the Israelites’ captivity, and that after four hundred ninety-seven years, Christ would come to Earth.

Our Church celebrates both Archangels Michael and Gabriel on November 8th.

An extraordinary icon that holds exceptional aesthetic value, both because of the monk’s craftsmanship and the age of the wood, as evidenced by the cracks running across its surface. For this beautiful image of the Archangel Gabriel, the artist used naturally aged wood from a renovated monastic cell on Mount Athos. This piece of wood once formed part of a monastic cell and, for many decades, “accompanied” the monks. Now, it continues its “life” as an icon, created with dedication and remarkable skill.

Since the icon is handmade and the wood processing is done by hand, there may be slight variations in the wood, but not in the depiction.

The icon is available by order.
