Description

Icon of the Holy Resurrection on Naturally Aged Wood

A beautiful serigraph depicting the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. This is a subject full of powerful symbolism, made even more striking by the magnificent Byzantine technique followed by the monastic iconographer. Jesus Christ is depicted in the center of the image, enveloped in white light as the sole conqueror of death.

“And on the third day He rose according to the Scriptures,” is stated in the Nicene Creed regarding the triumphant resurrection of Christ from the dead. The Resurrection of Jesus symbolizes the transition from death to life, while also giving new meaning to Life and Death through the Resurrection.

The piece of wood used for this particular icon comes from restoration work in a monastic cell on Mount Athos, which had suffered significant damage. However, since the monks make use of everything that can be reused, they gather the old wood, treat and preserve it, and give it a new purpose—this time as the base for icons. In this way, beautiful works of art are created, carrying a piece of the history of the Athonite state beyond its boundaries.

As the icon is handmade and the wood is treated by hand, there may be slight variations in the wood, but not in the depiction.

The icon is available upon order.
