Description
Icon of Jesus Christ the True Vine on Naturally Aged Wood
The icon of the Vine depicts Christ as the trunk of a tree, with the Twelve Apostles surrounding Him. Six on one side and six on the other, as branches of the tree, like the vines of the vine. At the four corners of the icon are the Evangelists.
Christ dominates the center of the icon. He has His arms open, blessing. He holds the open Gospel in His arms, with the corresponding text for this particular icon. The text reads: “I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser. Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away, and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit” (John 15:1-2).
The icon of Jesus Christ the True Vine, in serigraphy, was placed and artificially aged to match the wood. The halos of Jesus and the Twelve Apostles are simply but appropriately adorned, giving the icon the detail that constitutes the Byzantine style of the work. The cracks in the old wood bear witness to the many years of its life on Mount Athos.
Since the icon is handmade and the wood processing is done by hand, there may be slight variations in the wood, but not in the depiction.
The icon is available upon order.
