Description

Serigraph of Saint Symeon the God-Receiver on Naturally Aged Wood

A beautiful image of Saint Symeon created using the serigraphy technique, enhanced both qualitatively and aesthetically by the naturally aged wood, which is exclusively handworked.

According to Christian tradition, Saint Symeon lived in Jerusalem. He was particularly pious and enlightened by the Holy Spirit, which revealed to him that he would not die before seeing the Messiah. Indeed, 40 days after the birth of Jesus, guided by the Holy Spirit, he was at the entrance of the Temple of Jerusalem during the Presentation of Christ. He asked for and received the Divine Infant in his arms, and for this reason, he is called “God-Receiver” (the one who received Christ). He then proclaimed the famous “Now You dismiss Your servant, O Lord…”. He also foresaw the Lord’s painful crucifixion and prophesied to the Virgin Mary the sufferings she would endure for Him.

Along with Saint Symeon, the elderly Anna, daughter of Phanuel, was also present at the temple. She worshipped the infant Jesus and proclaimed that the little child was the Messiah awaited by the people of Israel, thanking and praising God. Saint Anna was declared a prophetess and is commemorated with Saint Symeon on February 3rd.

Since the image is handmade and the wood processing is done by hand, there may be small variations in the wood, but not in the depiction.
