Description

Serigraph of Saint Nectarios on Naturally Aged Wood

Saint Nectarios of Aegina was a highly beloved hierarch and shepherd. His humility and philanthropy were legendary. He was slandered and exiled by people who could not accept the influence that Saint Nectarios had on the world.

In 1904, he founded a women’s monastery on Aegina, where he personally took charge of the administration after settling there in 1908. His grace and fame continuously grew, causing the monastery to flourish in just four years, becoming well-known not only in Greece but throughout the Orthodox world.

He fell asleep in the Lord on November 9, 1920, and was buried at the Holy Trinity Monastery in Aegina. His holiness was so great that he performed many miracles both before and after his death. The people of Aegina considered him a saint even before his passing.

Forty years later, on April 20, 1961, he was officially canonized as a saint, as his miracles and great pastoral and ecclesiastical work were acknowledged.

This magnificent icon stands out for its theme featuring Saint Nectarios and the exceptional work of the monk iconographer. The image was made on naturally aged wood, and its aesthetics gain special value due to the visible cracks and antiquity of the wood, carrying a piece of the history of Mount Athos, as it originates from a restored cell, specially conserved by the monks of Mount Athos.

Since the icon is handmade and the wood is processed by hand, small variations in the wood may exist, but not in the depiction.

The icon is available upon order.
