A beautiful serigraph icon depicting Saint Charalambos, who endured brutal torture and ultimately martyred for Christ at the age of 113.

Saint Charalambos was a priest in Magnesia, Asia Minor, born around 89 AD. Historical accounts state that he was arrested by Governor Lucian during the persecution of Christians (circa 198 AD) initiated by Emperor Septimius Severus. He suffered severe tortures, some inflicted by Lucian himself, who failed to persuade him to renounce his faith. He was eventually beheaded at the age of 113 (202 AD).

The Church commemorates his memory on February 10, honoring him with the title of Hieromartyr. On the same day, Saints Porphyrios and Baptos, two soldiers ordered to torture him who converted to Christianity after witnessing his martyrdom, are also celebrated.

The Mount Athos monk who created this icon used a piece of naturally aged wood, which for decades was part of the modest furnishings of a cell on Mount Athos. The cracks running across the wood’s surface testify to its antiquity and its use by Athonite monks in their daily lives within the monastic community.

As the icon is handmade and the wood is processed by hand, slight variations in the wood may occur, though the depiction remains consistent.
