Serigraph of Saint Barbara on Naturally Aged Wood
This particular serigraph depicts Saint Barbara, who lived during the reign of Emperor Maximian (286 – 305 AD) and was the daughter of a pagan. Because of her great beauty, her father locked her in a tower to keep her from being seen by anyone. However, even there, she secretly learned about Christianity without her father’s knowledge. Her faith was revealed through a random event, and her father handed her over to the local ruler, who tortured her. Saint Barbara was ultimately beheaded by her own father, who, shortly after, was struck dead by a lightning bolt. Her precious relics are kept in Italy.
The remarkable serigraph created by the monk, along with the age of the wood, evidenced by the cracks running through its surface, are two of the key elements that make this image collectible. In addition to the beautiful representation of Saint Barbara, the monk used as the base for the image a piece of naturally aged wood from a restored cell in Mount Athos.
Since the image is handmade and the wood processing is done by hand, there may be slight variations in the wood, but not in the depiction.
The image is available upon request.
