Description

Icon of Saint Paisios on Naturally Aged Wood

This serigraph depicts Saint Paisios of Mount Athos (July 25, 1924 – July 12, 1994), who became widely known for his life and work.

He was canonized as a saint by the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople on January 13, 2015, and the Orthodox Church celebrates his memory on July 12. In 2017, he was declared the patron saint of the military branch of Communications by the Holy Synod of the Church of Greece.

In his final years, Saint Paisios lived in the cell of Panagouda on Mount Athos, where he was visited by many people who came to hear him and receive his blessing. He led a rigorous ascetic life, resting only 2 to 3 hours a day. After his death, he was buried at the Holy Monastery of Saint John the Theologian in Souroti, Thessaloniki. Since then, every year, on the night of July 11–12, a vigil is held in his honor at the monastery, with thousands of faithful participating.

The stunning serigraph created by the monk and the aged wood, confirmed by the cracks that run across its surface, are two of the main features that make this icon collectible. In addition to the beautiful representation of Saint Paisios, the monk used naturally aged wood from a restored cell on Mount Athos as the base for the icon.

As the icon is handmade and the wood processing is done by hand, there may be slight variations in the wood, but not in the depiction.

The icon is available upon order.
