Description

A special handiwork of an Agiorite monk. The image of the Saint with golden painted sand from the shores of the Athonian State.

Mary the Egyptian was born in the region of Egypt, during the Justinian period. From the age of 12, she lived in Alexandria, where she led a secluded life. Seeking new adventures, her footsteps brought her to Jerusalem at the age of 29. One day, a great crowd had flocked to the city for the celebration of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross.Suddenly, as if in a miracle, he “saw the true light” and after praying and worshiping the Holy Cross, he decided to leave the oldest profession in the world and settle in the desert, where he lived as an ascetic for 47 years. All these years she lived naked and was nourished by the Grace of God. Abba Zosimas, the only person who happened to see her in the desert, described her as “a shadow that resembled a human body”.According to her biographer, she died on Maundy Thursday, April 1st, and this is the day the church celebrates her memory.
