Description

A special handiwork of an Agiorite monk. The image of the Saint with golden painted sand from the shores of the Athonian State.

Saint Julia (May 22), came from a noble family of Carthage and lived in the 5th century AD. According to tradition it was sold in 439 AD. as a slave to a Syrian merchant named Eusebius. En route for her master on a voyage, the ship stopped at Cape Corso in northern Corsica. Julia did not disembark from the ships, so as not to participate in the pagan ceremony, in which her master would participate. The ruler of the island of Felikas ordered her to sacrifice to the idols. The Saint refused and with spiritual courage confessed Christ. So they nailed her to a cross and she was martyred.
Some scholars believe that the Saint may have been martyred by Saracen pirates.
