Description

The Holy Monastery of the Virgin of Kykkos, also known as the Kykkos Monastery, is one of the three largest and most historic male monasteries in Cyprus, belonging to the Church of Cyprus. It is also one of the 5 Stavropegic Monasteries of the Church of Cyprus, and its Abbot is the current Metropolitan of Kykkos. The monastery houses the famous icon of the Virgin Eleousa (Kykkos), which depicts the Virgin holding the Child from the right side. This icon is believed to have originated in Constantinople and is traditionally said to have been painted by the Evangelist Luke.

As the icon is handmade and the wood is processed by hand, there may be slight variations in the wood.
