Description

A special handiwork of an Agiorite monk. The image of the Saint with golden painted sand from the shores of the Athonian State.

Saint Eustathius was an officer in Rome and is said to have converted to Christianity after a miracle. According to tradition, he was once hunting a deer, which had a cross on its horns, while he heard a voice calling him to follow the One and Only God. A little later he was baptized a Christian, with the name Eustathius. Theopistus’ wife was baptized with him, as well as their two children Agapios and Theopistus.

However, when the emperor Trajan learned that he had converted to Christianity, he stripped him of his office and exiled him and his entire family. However, he was forced to bring him back some time later to help him in the wars he waged. However, Trajan’s successor, Hadrian, demanded that Eustathius sacrifice to idols, which Saint Eustathius vehemently refused. Thus began the torture for him and his family. Finally, they all died inside a bronze red-hot ox.
