Description

A special working hand of a saintly monk. The image of the Saint with golden painted sand from the shores of the Athonian State.

Saint Charalambos was severely tortured and finally martyred for Christ at the age of 113. Saint Charalambos was a priest in Magnesia in Asia Minor and is estimated to have been born in 89 AD. According to historical data, he was arrested by the prefect Luciano, during the period of the persecution of Christians, which had been unleashed by the emperor Septimius Severus.

He suffered severe torture, but no one could persuade him to deny his faith. He was finally beheaded at the age of 113 (202 AD). His memory is honored on February 10 by the Church, which gives him the title Hieromartyr. In fact, on the same day they celebrate Saints Porphyrios and Baptos, two of the soldiers who were ordered to torture him and who, seeing his martyrdom, became Christians.
