Description

A special handiwork of an Agiorite monk. The image of the Saint with golden painted sand from the shores of the Athonian State.

According to tradition, the original icon of Panagia Glykofilousa was saved during the iconoclasm and was transferred to Athos. It is said to have belonged to Victoria, the wife of a senator, who in her attempt to save the icon threw it into the sea.

Tradition says that the icon floated upright in the waves until it finally reached the arsenal of the Philotheou Monastery, where it was spotted and received by the monastery’s fathers. On Easter Monday, the litany of the icon takes place from the Holy Monastery to the place where it was found. It is worth mentioning that the nickname Glykofilousa is one of the approximately 500 names attributed to the Virgin Mary, who is one of the most beloved figures of the Orthodox Church.

As the picture is handmade and the wood is processed by hand, there may be slight variations in the wood.
