Description

A special handiwork of an Agiorite monk. The image of the Saint with golden painted sand from the shores of the Athonian State.

Saint Amfilochios Makris (1889-1970) was a Greek Orthodox Monk who lived in Patmos. His ranking as a Saint of the Orthodox Church was carried out by the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople.
His father came from Lipsi and his mother from Patmos. In Patmos he met the Asia Minor ascetic Theoktistos and was taught spiritually by him.

Due to his activity the Italian occupying forces exiled him for two years from 1937 to 1939. At that time he toured various regions of Epirus, Macedonia and Crete. In 1939 he was allowed to return to Patmos where he organized the Annunciation Monastery. The Italian Occupation of the Dodecanese was followed by the German Occupation, which lasted from the end of 1943 to May 1945 and the place experienced absolute economic impoverishment. After a two-year period of British administration, the Dodecanese were incorporated into the Greek state.

He founded other monasteries in Aegina and Kalymnos.
