The Embrace of the Apostles Peter and Paul – Pyrography

The month of June brightens the great figures of the holy first-throne apostles Peter and Paul (June 29), for whose feast the Church even prepares us with a special fast.

This is a great feast in which we are called to follow their path in love with the Lord, but also to be challenged to confront the issue of our unity in Christ, as it is vividly projected by the image of their embrace-embrace – the most famous image of the leaders is precisely embracing each other.

According to the late Fotis Kontoglou, there is even an epigram accompanying this icon: “Peter longs for the venerable goddess of his classmate, he runs to meet. Behold, Paul is very strong, extending his hand, to the right hand of Peter” (Longing for the venerable countenance of his classmate, Peter runs to meet him; seeing him whom he longed for so much, Paul stretches out his arms and embraces him).

Pyrography: Features

Pyrography is an art that attracts many creators because of the impressive results that can be achieved. It is a painting technique where the two primordial elements of Nature, wood and fire, are used. With patience and attention to detail, the monks create the fire-painted image, paying great attention to the error as it is not corrected as it is done with a pencil.

This image combines the art of engraving with that of pyrography, giving an excellent embossed result.
