A story full of divine presence

The church of Agios Nikolaos was built for the worship needs of the fathers, due to the fact that the area was shareholder. There was a church of Agioi Theodoroi, ruins of which are preserved outside Porto Lagos, and that is why in the iconostasis of the monastery there is the icon of Agioi Theodoroi. According to tradition, Saint Nicholas appeared and said that “I will be the patron saint as a sea saint” and so the church was renamed in memory of Agios Nikolaos. The current building was built in 1904, but on top of earlier churches, and proof is the icons of the iconostasis which is of the 18th century, around 1850, which we recently cleaned. The fathers came here from ancient times to supervise the real estate of the monastery that existed since the 11th century. Based on this, we can say that the dependency was created on the islet many years ago, while the temple is newer. As it is known in the past, there was no big bridge, people came and went by boat and neither did the chapel of Panagia Pantanassa, just as there was no bridge to it.

Pyrography: Features

Pyrography is an art that attracts many creators because of the impressive results that can be achieved. It is a painting technique where the two primordial elements of Nature, wood and fire, are used. With patience and attention to detail, the monks create the fire-painted image, paying great attention to the error as it is not corrected as it is done with a pencil.

This image combines the art of engraving with that of pyrography, giving an excellent embossed result.
