A wonderful lithograph depicting the Crucifixion of Jesus Christ. At the center is the Cross of the Passion, with the Virgin Mary positioned below and to the right of it, and to the left, the beloved disciple and apostle, Saint John the Theologian. The Crucifixion of Christ is regarded as the ultimate sacrifice, an act of unparalleled love from Jesus to all humanity. For this reason, the cross is considered the primary symbol of the Orthodox Church and Christianity in general, as it reminds believers of the Crucifixion of Jesus Christ and the salvation of humankind through His Passion and death. It thus symbolizes both Christ Himself and the faith of Christians.

Lithograph: Features

Using a lithographed copy of Byzantine art, the monk iconographer created this work following the traditional method of artificial aging, as taught at Mount Athos. The handmade artificial aging process gives the depiction of the Crucifixion a unique aesthetic and collectible value. The lithography technique in iconography is a printing technique that was invented in 1798.
