Description

Icon of the Resurrection on Naturally Aged Wood

A magnificent silk screen print depicting the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. This icon is filled with powerful symbolism, which is made even more striking by the beautiful Byzantine style followed by the monk iconographer. Jesus Christ is portrayed at the center of the icon, enveloped in vibrant colors as the sole conqueror of death.

“And He rose again on the third day, according to the Scriptures,” is stated in the Nicene Creed, referring to Christ’s triumphant resurrection from the dead. The Resurrection of Jesus symbolizes the passage from death to life, and through this event, both Life and Death take on new meaning.

The piece of wood used for this particular icon comes from restoration work in an Athonite cell that had suffered significant damage. However, since the monks make use of anything that can be repurposed, they gather old wood, process it, and restore it, giving it new life as a base for icons. In this way, beautiful works of art are created, carrying a piece of Mount Athos’ history beyond the borders of the Holy Mountain.

As the icon is handmade and the wood is processed manually, there may be slight variations in the wood itself, but not in the depiction.

The icon is available upon request.
