Description

Sandblasted gilding with the Fiery Ascension of the Prophet Elias.

An amazing gold print with the Fiery Ascension of the Prophet Elias.

A wonderful image with the prophet Elijah at the moment of his ascension to heaven in a chariot of fire, drawn by fiery horses.
Specifically, it was the period when the prophet Elijah together with his disciple Elisha left Gilgal with the destination Bethel, while from there they headed for Jericho. During the journey Elisha refused to leave the prophet Elijah until they finally reached the Jordan River.
On the banks of the Jordan the prophet Elijah took his mantle, folded it and struck the waters of the river. Then the river split in two and they crossed across the desert. However, while they were walking and talking, a chariot of fire with fiery horses grabbed the prophet Elijah and in a whirlwind ascended to heaven. Elisha as he saw him going up cried out “My Father, my Father, you are the chariot and the charioteer of Israel.”
The Orthodox Church honors Prophet Elias on July 20.

The amazing silkscreen created by the monk and the age of the wood, confirmed by the cracks that run through its surface, are two of the key elements that make this image a collector’s item. In addition to the wonderful representation of the Prophet Elias in the chariot of fire, the monk in this case used naturally aged wood from a restored cell of Mount Athos as a base for the image.

Gold Sandblasting: Features

In the icon with the representation of Jesus Christ, the hagiographer monk used the technique of gold printing, creating a work of unique beauty.
Gold printing is a type of thermotype technique. Thermography is the name of the method by which very thin metallic gold foil is placed on surfaces such as wood, leather, cardboard, plastic by pressing a heated embossed plate (cliché) onto our surface. Around the image you also use the sandblasting technique, it is the technical processing by which the corrosion of a part or the whole of a surface is achieved by throwing sand under pressure.
