Description

Lithograph of Saints Constantine and Helena

This exceptional antiqued lithograph depicts Saints Constantine and Helena on either side of the Holy Cross.

Saint Constantine wears a purple cloak and a decorated golden cord, which wraps around and symbolizes the shroud and the Resurrection of Christ. Saint Helena is depicted wearing a pink mantle with a golden cord, along with a blue veil covering her head.

The faces of Saints Constantine and Helena express severity, while at the same time radiating a heavenly sweetness.

Saint Helena is the patroness of blacksmiths because, along with the Holy Cross, she found the iron nails with which Christ was crucified. The Greek people have also linked many traditions to her name. Together with her son Constantine, they are also considered the protectors of pilgrims in the Holy Land.

Lithography: Characteristics

Using a lithographed copy of Byzantine art, the iconographer monk created this work following the traditional method of artificial aging, as taught to him on Mount Athos. In the four corners, the image is adorned with a gold finish, placed between the carvings of the artificial aging.

The icon is available upon request.
