Description

Aged Lithograph of Saint Xenia
Saint Xenia was born in Kalamata, Peloponnese, in 291 AD. Her parents, Nikolaos and Despina, were devout Christians who fled from the harsh persecutions of Christians and settled in Kalamata. From a young age, Xenia adorned her soul with fasting, self-control, prayer, and charity, helping the poor, widows, and orphans. When the local governor Domitian proposed to marry her, she refused and remained steadfast in her Christian faith, leading to her brutal torture and eventual martyrdom by beheading on May 3, 318 AD.

After her death, she was credited with performing many miracles. In 1993, a church was built in her honor in Kalamata.

Aged Lithograph Characteristics
The monk who created this image used the lithography technique, crafting a unique work of art. The lithograph is based on a Byzantine art copy, following the traditional method of artificial aging, a process highly valued in the iconography workshops of Mount Athos.
