Description

Silkscreen Print of Saint Marina on Naturally Aged Wood

An exquisite silkscreen print of Saint Marina, whose feast day is celebrated on July 17th.

Saint Marina was born in Antioch of Pisidia, and at the age of 15, she confessed to her father that she was a Christian. Shocked, he disowned her as his daughter.

Later, she was arrested by the governor of the region, who, struck by her beauty, asked her to renounce Christ so that he could marry her. The saint, renowned for her faith, refused, and the governor subjected her to severe torture. First, he tore her flesh, but the wounds healed by themselves. He then tried to burn her, but the fire caused her no harm, and finally, he beheaded her.

In many icons, Saint Marina is depicted defeating a demon who tried to tempt her to stop praying during her imprisonment, but he was unsuccessful.

This is an outstanding creation, gaining exceptional aesthetic value due to both the monk’s craftsmanship and the age of the wood, which is evident from the cracks that run across its surface. For this beautiful icon of Saint Marina defeating the demon, the artist used naturally aged wood from a restored cell on Mount Athos as the base.

Since the icon is handmade and the wood is processed by hand, there may be small variations in the wood, but not in the depiction.

The icon is available upon request.
