Description
Serigraph of the Three Hierarchs on Naturally Aged Wood
An amazing image depicting the Three Hierarchs.
The Three Hierarchs refer to three saints and theologians of the Orthodox Christian faith, protectors of knowledge and students: John Chrysostom, Basil the Great, and Gregory Nazianzus. They were proclaimed Fathers of the Church and Saints.
This particular image clearly displays the cracks and age of the wood, which comes from a restored cell in Mount Athos. This image stands out not only for its theme and the impressive work of the monk iconographer but also for the wood used as its base. Specifically, when a cell or hermitage in Mount Athos is restored, the monks do not discard the old wood; instead, they preserve some of it and reuse it as the base for icons. These remarkable works of art carry a small piece of the history of this sacred place, as they were once part of it.
As the image is handmade and the wood treatment is done by hand, there may be slight variations in the wood, but not in the depiction.
The image is available upon request.
