Description

Three Hierarchs – Lithograph
The Three Hierarchs are three saints and theologians of the Orthodox Christian faith, patrons of letters and students: John Chrysostom, Basil the Great, and Gregory Nazianzus. They were prominent Church Fathers and Saints.

The feast of the Three Hierarchs was established around the mid-11th century during the reigns of Constantine IX Monomachos and Alexios I Komnenos by Metropolitan John Mauropous of Euchaita, who composed part of the service for the three saints. Within the service, Mauropous praises the significance of their work and the quality of their actions, emphasizing the connection between the Triad and the Trinitarian God in the Orthodox Church.

Lithograph: Characteristics
Using a lithographed reproduction of Byzantine art, the monk-iconographer created this work following the traditional method of artificial aging, as taught at Mount Athos. In the four corners, the icon is adorned with a gold finish, placed between the carvings of the artificial aging process.
