Description

Sandblasting with Saint Euphemia

Saint Euphemia lived and was martyred during the reign of Emperor Diocletian.

She was born in Chalcedon to a devout and noble family. Her parents, Philophronos and Theodoriana, made sure their daughter developed every Christian virtue. Euphemia grew into a person with rare gifts and a strong Christian spirit, which she demonstrated when the pagan proconsul of Asia Minor, Priscus, ordered all the inhabitants of Chalcedon to attend a festival in honor of the pagan god Ares. Euphemia, along with other Christians, decided not to attend the pagan celebration, for which she was arrested and imprisoned.

During her captivity, the enemies of Christ tried in every way to persuade the Saint to renounce her faith and worship idols. When they realized that Euphemia would not change her beliefs through words, they subjected her to horrific torture. However, by divine grace, the Saint remained unharmed by the tortures. Finally, the executioners threw her to wild beasts, and Euphemia was killed by a bear.
