Description

Embossed Silkscreen on  Wood Featuring the Virgin Mary Glykofilousa

This silkscreen icon depicts the Virgin Mary Glykofilousa (Sweet-Kissing).
According to tradition, the icon of the Virgin Glykofilousa was saved during the period of Iconoclasm and brought to Mount Athos. It is said to have belonged to Victoria, the wife of a senator, who, in an effort to save the icon, cast it into the sea.

Legend says the icon floated upright on the waves until it reached the arsanas (harbor) of the Philotheou Monastery, where it was discovered and received by the monks. On Easter Monday, a procession of the icon takes place from the Holy Monastery to the location where it was found.

It is worth noting that “Glykofilousa” (Sweet-Kissing) is one of approximately 500 titles attributed to the Virgin Mary, one of the most beloved figures in the Orthodox Church.

The stunning silkscreen created by the monk on natural wood with embossed designs is one of the key elements that make this icon a collectible item. In addition to the beautiful representation of the Virgin Mary Glykofilousa, the monk used natural wood from a monastic cell on Mount Athos as the base of the icon.

As the icon is handmade and the wood is processed manually, slight variations may occur in the wood and embossed designs, though not in the depiction itself.

The icon is available upon request.
