Description

Handmade Hagiography On natural linden wood by the hands of the hagiographer, the saintly monk Father Vasileios, who is buried in the Holy Cell of Agios Anthony of the Holy Monastery of Philotheus.
An exceptional iconography depicting Saint Dimitrios, crafted entirely by hand.

This specific iconography has been crafted by the Agiorite Father Vasilios, based on Byzantine iconography standards. The depiction of the Saint has been painted entirely by hand. Coating the hagiography with pure beeswax ensures that the colors of the image remain unchanged over time.

An amazing icon painting with Saint Demetrius, the patron saint and patron saint of Thessaloniki. In the person of Saint Demetrius, Thessaloniki sees its protector and liberator. Not only because the liberation of the city from the Turks in 1912 coincided with the feast of the Saint but also because, as tradition says, before the liberation of Thessaloniki, its inhabitants saw the Saint on horseback in the White Tower cheering them on. According to the Christian tradition, Saint Demetrius lived and was martyred in Thessaloniki during the reign of Diocletian, while he was the son of an aristocratic family and an officer, however this status did not prevent him from accepting the Orthodox faith and being baptized a Christian.
