Description

Silk-screen of Blessed Amphilochios Makris on Naturally Aged Wood

The canonization of Elder Amphilochios Makris of Patmos was carried out on August 29, 2018, by the Holy and Sacred Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate.

Blessed Amphilochios Makris (born Athanasios Makris) was born on February 13, 1889, in Patmos.

He took monastic vows on August 27, 1906, at the Monastery of the Theologian, where he received the name Amphilochios.

On March 23, 1913, at the age of 24, he was tonsured as a monk by the ascetic and spiritual father Makarios Antoniadis the Samosian at the Monastery of Apollos Megaloschimos.

He was ordained deacon by Metropolitan Agathangelos of Kos on January 27, 1919, at the Church of Saint Nicholas in Kos, and priest on Thomas Sunday, April 5 of the same year, by Metropolitan Konstantinos Vantzalidis of Samos and Ikaria, at the Church of Saint Spyridon in Vathy.

He served as priest at the Monastery of Patmos from 1920 to 1926 and was appointed director of the Sacred Cave of the Apocalypse from 1926 to 1932.

On November 14, 1935, he was elected abbot at the Monastery of Patmos, and in 1937 he founded the Monastery of the Annunciation. From 1939 to 1940, he served as priest at the Sacred Shrine of the Panagia of the Savior.

Elder Amphilochios Makris fell asleep in the Lord on Thursday, April 16, 1970, and was buried on April 17 in the cemetery of the Monastery of the Annunciation.

Blessed Amphilochios Makris was a friend and spiritual child of Saint Nektarios (November 9). He was the spiritual father of many prominent figures in the Church, both Greek and foreign. He was the inspiration for the missionary work in Africa and elsewhere, as figures such as the late Father Chrysostomos Papasarantopoulos and the hierarch of the Ecumenical Throne, Metropolitan Amphilochios (Tsoukos) of Ganos and Chora, were his spiritual children.

Since the image is handmade and the wood processing is done by hand, there may be slight variations in the wood, but not in the depiction itself.
