Silk Screen Print of the Ascension of Prophet Elijah on Naturally Aged Wood
A beautiful image of the Prophet Elijah at the moment of his ascension to heaven in a chariot of fire, drawn by fiery horses.
Specifically, this occurred during the time when Prophet Elijah, accompanied by his disciple Elisha, left Gilgal and set out for Bethel, and from there they proceeded toward Jericho. During their journey, Elisha refused to leave Prophet Elijah’s side until they finally reached the Jordan River.
At the banks of the Jordan, Prophet Elijah took his mantle, folded it, and struck the waters of the river. The river then parted, allowing them to cross into the desert. However, as they were walking and conversing, a chariot of fire with fiery horses took hold of Prophet Elijah, and in a whirlwind, he was lifted up into heaven. As Elisha watched him ascend, he cried out, “My father, my father, the chariot and horsemen of Israel!”
The Orthodox Church honors Prophet Elijah on July 20th.
The remarkable silk screen print created by the monk, along with the antiquity of the wood, evidenced by the cracks running across its surface, are two of the key elements that make this particular image a collector’s item. In addition to the beautiful depiction of Prophet Elijah in the fiery chariot, the monk used naturally aged wood from a restored cell of Mount Athos as the base for the image.
Since the icon is handmade and the wood processing is done by hand, there may be slight variations in the wood, but not in the depiction.
The icon is available upon request.
