Description

Serigraph of Saint Stylianos on Naturally Aged Wood

An image on naturally aged wood of Saint Stylianos, whom God blessed with the gift of healing sick children and helping barren women.

Saint Stylianos came from a wealthy family, but from a young age, he was taught by his parents to practice self-control and to view money as a means to help and care for the poor and the sick. When his parents died, he distributed his entire inheritance and went to live as a hermit in the desert.

In fact, his reputation spread to the cities, and many people came to seek his spiritual guidance. Despite his solitary life, Saint Stylianos had great affection and compassion for children. He would explain that childhood, by nature, is more virtuous. Many times, parents would bring their children to him, and the Saint’s joy was immense.

Saint Stylianos is depicted with an infant wrapped in his arms, symbolizing his role as the protector of children. His feast day is celebrated on November 26.

Two elements contribute to the special aesthetic value of this icon. One is the flawlessly executed representation of Saint Stylianos by the monk iconographer, and the second is the naturally aged wood used as the base of the icon, which comes from the Holy Mount Athos itself.

Since the icon is handmade and the wood processing is done by hand, there may be slight variations in the wood, but not in the depiction.

The icon is available upon request.
