An exceptional icon depicting Saint Simeon the God-Receiver. The icon is entirely hand-painted by the iconographer, Athonite monk Father Vasileios, who resides at the Holy Cell of Saint Anthony in the Holy Monastery of Philotheou. Father Vasileios, respecting the Athonite tradition, creates unique icons as a form of ministry.

Saint Simeon (February 2) lived in Jerusalem. He was righteous and devout. The information he received from the Holy Spirit, that he would not die before seeing Christ, gave him strength throughout his old age.

Finally, exactly forty days after the birth of Jesus, the Holy Spirit informed him to go to the Temple. Filled with joy and gladness, he saw Joseph and the Virgin Mary coming, holding the infant Jesus. Simeon, inwardly informed that this child was Christ, took Him in his arms. After receiving all the joy of His divine presence, he lifted his gaze and, thanking God, said: “Now You are letting Your servant depart in peace, according to Your word; for my eyes have seen Your salvation, which You have prepared before the face of all people, a light to bring revelation to the Gentiles and the glory of Your people Israel.” In other words, “Now, take my soul, Master, according to Your word, in peace, for my eyes have seen the Savior You have prepared for all nations. He will be a light to reveal the true God and will glorify Your people Israel.”
